Archetype Overview
Kalgara is a yellow Shandian Warrior midrange deck built around one trade: your Life cards are a resource, and your Leader spends them every turn. Each Leader attack converts a Life card into a Character on board and a card in hand. The rest of the 50 finds Shandian Warriors, refills the Life you spent, and keeps your hand stocked so the Leader always has something to put down. This list took 1st Place at ChinoizeCup #122 Tuesday (2026-10-13), a 64-player event, piloted by BMKid.
The Engine: Life Into Board
The Kalgara Leader reads: with DON!! x1 attached, when it attacks, play a Shandian Warrior Character from hand with cost equal to or less than the number of DON!! on your field, then add your top Life card to hand. That gives you three things from one attack:
- A free Character. It comes in on top of whatever you paid for in your main phase, so you effectively develop twice per turn.
- A card back. The Life card goes to your hand, which refunds the Character you just played.
- Pressure. The Leader is still swinging for 5000.
Twenty-two of the deck's Characters are Shandian Warriors, so the Leader rarely whiffs. The cheapest are the 3-cost Kalgara and the 4-cost Wyper and Raki, so the trigger turns on at 3 DON!!. From there it scales up to the 6-cost Wyper, a 7000-power body you get for no DON!! at all.
Why the Plan Is Strong
The free plays chain into each other. At 4 DON!!, the Leader can put down Raki, whose On Play puts a 3-cost Shandian Warrior from hand into play, such as the 3-cost Kalgara. That Kalgara can trash a card to look at 5 and take up to 2 Shandian Warriors or Mont Blanc Noland. One Leader attack can leave you a Blocker, a 5000-power body and a hand that is fuller than when you started, before you have spent your DON!! on anything.
You can spend Life because you can rebuild it. Three cards put the top card of your deck onto your Life:
- Mont Blanc Noland, whenever you have a Kalgara Character on the field.
- Borsalino, when you are at 2 Life or less. It is also a 6000-power Blocker.
- Sweet 3 Generals, which also draws a card and gives two opposing Characters -3000 power.
The deck can sit at low Life by choice and then climb back up. A Leader that gives up Life every turn needs exactly this kind of support.
The 5-cost Kalgara pays you for every Life change. During your turn, it draws you a card when a Life card leaves either player's Life area. That includes your Leader's trigger, damage you deal, and the 5-cost Nami moving an opponent's Life card to their hand. After it draws, you can't draw from your own effects for the rest of that turn. You get one draw per turn from it, so plan around that.
The search is dense. These cards all dig the deck for its pieces:
- The 1-cost Nami and Upper Yard each find any Sky Island card.
- The 4-cost Wyper digs for Upper Yard and plays it.
- The Earth Will Not Lose! gives +3000 as a Counter and also drops Upper Yard.
Because of this, your hand stays full of Shandian Warriors, the main thing that can stall this Leader.
The removal comes as a package.
- Zeus trades a Life card for a K.O. on an opposing Character of cost 5 or less.
- The 5-cost Wyper turns a Life card face-up to K.O. every opposing Character at 0 power or less. Played after Sweet 3 Generals has given -3000, it clears the smaller Characters off the board.
- The 5-cost Nami gives a rested DON!! to your Leader and pulls a card off a healthy opponent's Life.
- Monkey.D.Luffy gains Rush at 6+ DON!! and grows when your opponent uses an Event or Blocker, so it closes games against decks that defend with those.
Your hand is also your defense. The Life you take with your Leader isn't lost; it becomes cards you can Counter with. The 1-cost Nami, Zeus, the 4-cost Wyper and the 6-cost Wyper all carry +2000 Counter. Most other Characters carry +1000.
What It Asks of You
This deck punishes autopilot. Every turn you choose how much Life to spend and when to rebuild it. You need to know your exact DON!! count so the Leader's play is legal, and you have to order your draws around the 5-cost Kalgara's draw limit. If you take Life to hand too freely while facing a fast deck with lethal on board, you hand them the game. The Leader also needs DON!! x1 attached to trigger at all. The 5-cost Wyper's once-per-turn ability, which gives a rested DON!! to a Sky Island Leader or Character, and the 5-cost Nami both make that cheaper.
Who Should Pick It Up
Pick up Kalgara if you like decks where getting ahead on cards and board comes from decisions, not draws. It suits you if you are comfortable tracking Life totals on both sides and want a midrange deck that can fight on board and also rebuild its defenses. If you want a deck that plays the same way every game, look elsewhere. If you like counting resources and choosing your risk turn by turn, this list gives you more decisions to win with than almost any other yellow Leader.
Core Strategy & Game Plan
Kalgara is a proactive yellow midrange deck that treats its own Life as a hand. Each Leader attack can put a free Shandian Warrior onto the board and pull a Life card into your hand. Your refill pieces then put cards from the deck back on top of your Life. The result is a board that grows every turn, a hand that never runs dry, and a Life total that stays healthier than it should.
How the Deck Wins
You win by out-developing the opponent. Each turn you get one Character from your hard cast and a second one from the Kalgara Leader's [When Attacking]. Both are 5000 to 7000 bodies, and most of them leave value behind. The opponent can't remove two threats a turn forever. Once they fall behind on board, your swing turns close the game:
- Nami (EB03-053) strips their Life.
- Monkey.D.Luffy gains Rush at 6 DON!! and punishes every Blocker or Event they use to stay alive.
- Wyper (OP15-114) and Sweet 3 Generals clear their board before your attacks.
The Engine
- The cheat: the Leader needs one DON!! attached. The cost cap counts every DON!! on your field, including rested ones. That means you can spend your DON!! in the main phase and still play a Character as big as your total DON!!. The play is "up to 1," so the Life cost is optional. You choose every turn whether to pay it.
- DON!! enablers: Wyper (OP15-114) can give a rested DON!! to your Sky Island Leader once per turn. Nami (EB03-053) does the same on play. Both let you tap out for a 5-cost and still meet the Leader's [DON!! x1].
- The Life loop: each refill piece adds the top card of your deck to the top of your Life, and the Leader's next attack moves it into your hand.
- Mont Blanc Noland refills as long as you control a Kalgara Character.
- Borsalino refills when you're at 2 Life or fewer, and blocks.
- Sweet 3 Generals refills for 2 rested DON!! and also draws.
- The draw: Kalgara (OP12-099) draws when any card leaves either player's Life on your turn. That includes your Leader's Life-to-hand, damage you deal, and Nami (EB03-053) taking their top Life card. After that draw, your own effects can't draw for the rest of the turn. Plan around this: if Kalgara (OP12-099) draws first, Sweet 3 Generals loses its draw that turn.
- The search: these keep your hand full of things for the Leader to cheat out.
- Nami (OP15-108) and Upper Yard find Sky Island cards.
- Kalgara (OP15-101) takes up to two Shandian Warriors or Mont Blanc Noland.
- Wyper (OP08-110) finds and plays Upper Yard.
- Raki plays Kalgara (OP15-101) straight from hand.
Posture: Proactive, With a Counter Cushion
You are the beatdown, but you aren't racing. The Life you turn into cards becomes counter material. Nami (OP15-108), Zeus, Wyper (OP08-110) and Wyper (OP12-114) each give +2000. The Earth Will Not Lose! gives +3000 and plays Upper Yard from your hand.
The real danger is overdrawing your Life. Take Life when you have a refill lined up or the card you play is worth it. Decline the Life cost when you're low and have no Mont Blanc Noland, Borsalino, or Sweet 3 Generals to follow up.
The Ideal Game, Turn by Turn
- 1–2 DON!!: dig. Use Nami (OP15-108) or Upper Yard. There are no Shandian Warriors at cost 2 or less, so the Leader cheat isn't live yet. Spend these turns setting up the hand.
- 3 DON!!: attach one DON!! to the Leader and attack. Cheat out Kalgara (OP15-101), trash your weakest card, and take two pieces. You now have a Kalgara Character on board, which turns Mont Blanc Noland on.
- 4 DON!!: this is the going-second showcase. Cheat Raki, whose On Play puts Kalgara (OP15-101) into play from your hand. That's two bodies, a Blocker, and a dig from one attack. Wyper (OP08-110) is the other good cheat here if you still need Upper Yard online.
- 5 DON!!: the deck's real turn. Hard cast Nami (EB03-053), give the rested DON!! to the Leader, and take their top Life card. Then attack and cheat Kalgara (OP12-099) or Wyper (OP15-114). That's two 6000-power bodies, a Life card off them, and a card or more for you. If Wyper (OP15-114) is already on board, you can hard cast Mont Blanc Noland instead, refill your Life, and still have a DON!! attached for the cheat.
- 6+ DON!!: start converting the board into a finish.
- Wyper (OP12-114) is your biggest cheat at 7000.
- Monkey.D.Luffy comes down with Rush.
- Sweet 3 Generals refills, draws, and shrinks two opposing Characters. Play it before Wyper (OP15-114), whose sweep K.O.s everything at 0 power or less, so that more of their board drops into range.
Face-up Life matters in two places. Wyper (OP15-114) and the [On K.O.] of Nami (EB03-053) both turn your top Life face-up. Your Leader's next attack adds that same top card to your hand, so the information you gave away is gone again by the end of the turn. Monkey.D.Luffy reveals the top Life card instead and gains +1000 per cost on it. When you refill Life from the deck before a Luffy attack, you don't know what you're stacking. Treat that bonus as upside, not a number to count on.
Card Choices & Breakdown
Every slot in this list feeds one loop. Your Leader cashes in Life to put Shandian Warrior Characters onto the field. The refill cards put that Life back. The draw engine turns each Life card that leaves into extra resources. The cards fall into five jobs.
Leader Fuel: The Shandian Warrior Curve
Kalgara's Leader ability only plays {Shandian Warrior} Characters, and only those whose cost is at or below your DON!! count. That rule decides which bodies the deck runs:
| DON!! on field | Leader can play |
|---|---|
| 3 | Kalgara (OP15-101) |
| 4 | Wyper (OP08-110), Raki |
| 5 | Kalgara (OP12-099), Wyper (OP15-114) |
| 6 | Wyper (OP12-114) |
None of Nami, Mont Blanc Noland, Borsalino, Monkey.D.Luffy, Zeus or Sweet 3 Generals carries the {Shandian Warrior} type. You hard-cast those. Plan your DON!! with that in mind.
Wyper (OP12-114) has no text, so it can look like filler. It is a full four copies for three reasons. It is the biggest body the Leader can cheat out. It hits for 7000. It carries a +2000 Counter. Once you reach 6 DON!!, every copy in hand is either a free attacker or a 2000-point defensive card.
The Search Package
- Nami (OP15-108), 4 copies: A 1-cost Sky Island dig with a +2000 Counter. Almost every core card is {Sky Island}, so she rarely misses: the Kalgaras, the Wypers, Raki, Upper Yard and The Earth Will Not Lose!.
- Kalgara (OP15-101), 4 copies: The deck's best card advantage. You trash 1 card, look at 5, and take up to 2 Mont Blanc Noland or Shandian Warrior cards. At cost 3, it is also the earliest card the Leader can play.
- Wyper (OP08-110), 4 copies: Finds Upper Yard and plays it on the spot. That chains straight into another Sky Island search. Its +2000 Counter keeps it live on defense.
- Upper Yard, 4 copies: A 1-cost Stage that is also a 5-card Sky Island dig. You run all four because both Wyper (OP08-110) and The Earth Will Not Lose! put it into play for free.
- Raki, 2 copies: A Blocker whose On Play puts a cost-3-or-less Shandian Warrior from hand onto the field. In this list that means only Kalgara (OP15-101). At 4 DON!!, the Leader plays Raki, Raki plays Kalgara, and Kalgara digs for two. That is a strong turn, but it needs both cards in hand, so you run two copies rather than four.
Life Refill
Each time the Leader's ability resolves, you take a Life card into your hand. These cards put Life back:
- Mont Blanc Noland, 4 copies: Adds the top card of your deck to your Life. It needs a Shandian Warrior Leader, which you always have, and a Kalgara Character on the field. With eight Kalgara Characters in the deck, that condition is easy to meet. Kalgara (OP15-101) can also search it by name.
- Borsalino, 4 copies: A 6000 Blocker that refills Life only when you are at 2 or fewer. It is a catch-up card for the turns after you have spent Life aggressively.
- Sweet 3 Generals, 2 copies: Rest 2 DON!! to draw 1 card, add 1 Life, and give up to two opposing Characters -3000. Its Trigger plays it for free when it is flipped from Life. You run two because the 6-cost hard-cast is clunky. The free play off a Trigger is the bonus.
Turning Life Into Cards
Kalgara (OP12-099) is why spending Life feels free. On your turn, whenever a card leaves either player's Life, you draw 1.
- The Leader adds your Life card to hand after the Character is already on the field. If that Character is this Kalgara, it draws right away.
- After that draw, you cannot draw with your own effects for the rest of the turn. Further Life removals that turn do nothing.
- This also blocks the draw from Sweet 3 Generals. Resolve Sweet 3 Generals before any Life leaves.
Two cards trigger this draw on demand:
- Nami (EB03-053), 4 copies: Gives a rested DON!! to your Leader. If your opponent has 3 or more Life, it also moves their top Life card to their hand. Its On K.O. ability can play a Character of 6000 power or less from your hand, so trading it away is fine.
- Zeus, 2 copies: Take a Life card from the top or bottom of your Life to K.O. an opposing Character of cost 5 or less. It is cheap removal that also triggers the draw. It costs Life on its own, though, so you keep it to two copies.
Board Control and Closing
- Wyper (OP15-114), 4 copies: Turn your top Life card face-up to apply its power change to every opposing Character, then K.O. each one at 0 power or less. If you have both this and Sweet 3 Generals, resolve the -3000 first so the 0-power check sees the lowered numbers. Its Once Per Turn ability gives a rested DON!! to a Sky Island Leader or Character. That turns DON!! you spent on plays back into attack power.
- Monkey.D.Luffy, 2 copies: A 7000 attacker. It gains Rush at 6 or more DON!!. When your opponent uses an Event or Blocker, you reveal your top Life card and it gains +1000 power per point of that card's cost, which punishes defensive turns. It has no Counter value and does not work with the Leader, so it stays at two copies as a finisher.
The Counter Suite
You run only two copies of The Earth Will Not Lose!. It gives +3000 power and plays Upper Yard from your hand, and its Trigger draws 2 and trashes 1. The low count is affordable because your Characters do most of the defending. Fourteen cards carry +2000 Counters: every Nami (OP15-108), Zeus, Wyper (OP08-110) and Wyper (OP12-114). Most of the 5-cost Characters add +1000 on top of that.
When choosing what to pitch, keep in mind which cards have no Counter at all: Kalgara (OP15-101) and Monkey.D.Luffy. They are your best discards for the trash cost on Kalgara (OP15-101), and the worst cards to be holding when you need to defend.
The Decklist
This is the 50-card list that took 1st Place at ChinoizeCup #122 Tuesday (2026-10-13), a 64-player event, piloted by BMKid. It costs about $208 at TCGplayer market prices. Several names repeat across different printings, so every row carries its set code. Register and sleeve by card number, not by name.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | Upper Yard | OP05-117 | 1 | Finds 1 more {Sky Island} card from the top 5. |
Reading the List
- Leader targets: 22 Characters carry the {Shandian Warrior} type, enough that the Leader's attack almost always has something to put into play.
- Counter density: 14 cards have a +2000 Counter, 24 have a +1000 Counter, and the two Events add a +3000 Counter. That leaves 10 cards that can't defend from hand: both Kalgara OP15-101 copies, both Monkey.D.Luffy copies, and all four Upper Yard.
- Triggers: only Sweet 3 Generals and The Earth Will Not Lose! have one. Treat Life as a resource the Leader cashes in, not as a source of free value.
- Curve: the deck centers on cost 5 with 20 cards there. The 1- and 3-cost searchers keep the early turns smooth.
- Legality: Borsalino EB04-058 is half of a banned pair with OP07-115 I Re-Quasar Helllp!! (source: Bandai official Banned/Restricted Card List, effective 2026-10-12). This list doesn't run that Event, so it is legal as registered.
The flex slots are the 2-ofs: Zeus, Raki, Monkey.D.Luffy, Sweet 3 Generals and The Earth Will Not Lose!. The 4-ofs are the engine. Leave them alone.
Opening Hands & Mulligan
This deck's opening hand is about one thing: setting up the first Kalgara Leader trigger. The Leader plays a {Shandian Warrior} Character from your hand with cost equal to or less than the DON!! on your field. That means your keep is decided by whether you can hit the right cost on curve, and by whether you have a 1-cost searcher to find it. Every trigger also moves a Life card to your hand, so the hand also needs enough Counter to absorb that Life loss.
What Every Keep Needs
- A turn-2 target or a way to find one. The 3-cost Kalgara is the best opener the deck has. If you don't have it, a 1-cost Nami or Upper Yard can dig for it. Both search for {Sky Island} cards, and every Shandian Warrior in the list carries that type.
- Something to trash. The 3-cost Kalgara makes you trash a card before it looks at 5. A redundant 5-cost or a second copy of your top end is ideal fodder. Pitching a +2000 Counter is not.
- Counter in hand. The +2000 cards are the 1-cost Nami, Zeus, the 4-cost Wyper and the 6-cost Wyper. The Earth Will Not Lose! adds +3000. The 3-cost Kalgara and Monkey.D.Luffy have no Counter value, so don't count them as defense.
Keep or Send Back
| Opening five | Call | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Kalgara (3), Nami (1), Wyper (4), Wyper (6), Borsalino | Keep | Turn-2 cheat is in hand, with a searcher, Counter, and fodder. |
| Upper Yard, Raki, Mont Blanc Noland, Wyper (6), The Earth Will Not Lose! | Keep | Upper Yard digs 5 for the 3-drop, Raki is a turn-2 target going second, and the defense is solid. |
| Kalgara (5), Wyper (5), Zeus, Wyper (6), The Earth Will Not Lose! | Send back | Nothing for the Leader to play before turn 3, and no searcher to fix it. |
| Borsalino, Nami (5), Sweet 3 Generals, Mont Blanc Noland, Monkey.D.Luffy | Send back | All top end, and none of it is a Shandian Warrior the Leader can play. |
Watch out for hands full of 5-costs. Mont Blanc Noland, Borsalino, the 5-cost Nami, Monkey.D.Luffy and Sweet 3 Generals are not Shandian Warriors, so the Leader can never play them. A hand stacked with them leaves your Leader without an ability for the early turns.
Going First
Turn 1 (1 DON!!): Play one 1-cost searcher. Which one depends on whether you already hold the 3-cost Kalgara:
- You don't have it: lead with Upper Yard, because 5 cards is a deeper dig than Nami's 3.
- You do have it: lead with Nami and hold Upper Yard. A held copy guarantees the 4-cost Wyper and The Earth Will Not Lose! have a Stage to play from hand, even if Wyper's look whiffs.
Turn 2 (3 DON!!): Play your remaining 1-cost cards first. Rested DON!! still count as DON!! on your field, so the cost ceiling stays at 3. Then attach 1 DON!! to the Leader, attack, and play the 3-cost Kalgara. Its dig should find your turn-3 and turn-4 plays.
Turn 3 (5 DON!!): The ceiling reaches 5, which puts the 5-cost Kalgara in range. From then on, every Life card the Leader moves to your hand draws you a card, which pays for the Life the trigger costs.
Going Second
Turn 1 (2 DON!!): No Shandian Warrior in the list costs 2 or less, so the Leader trigger does nothing this turn. Spend the DON!! on Nami plus Upper Yard to dig twice. Hold Zeus unless the opponent has a Character actually worth trading a Life card to K.O.
Turn 2 (4 DON!!): This is the strongest early turn in the deck. Hard-play the 3-cost Kalgara with 3 DON!!, attach the fourth to the Leader, and play a 4-cost from the trigger:
- Raki gives you a Blocker, and its On Play can put a second 3-cost Kalgara onto the field.
- Wyper (4) fetches and plays Upper Yard.
With only Raki and one 3-cost Kalgara in hand, you have two options:
- Let the Leader play Raki and have Raki play Kalgara, which costs no DON!! for either Character.
- Hard-play Kalgara and hold Raki for the trigger.
Either way you end the turn with two bodies. Going second, a hand with a 4-cost Shandian Warrior is a good keep even without the 3-drop.
When the Matchup Changes the Keep
Decide what kind of deck you expect and adjust:
- Aggressive decks: Every Leader trigger hands them a free point of Life, and your Life-restoring cards come online late. Mont Blanc Noland needs a Kalgara Character on field, and Borsalino needs you at 2 or less Life. Keep hands with two or more Counter cards even if the engine is thin. Value Raki's Blocker and The Earth Will Not Lose! higher. Be willing to skip a trigger rather than burn Life you can't defend.
- Slower and control decks: Flip the priority. A hand full of Counter but no 3-cost Kalgara and no searcher gives them time and gives you nothing to do. Send it back and look for the engine. Against these decks, the line of Leader trigger into the 5-cost Kalgara draw engine is what wins the long game.
- Decks that go wide with Characters: Zeus and Sweet 3 Generals become more valuable to keep. They're still not reasons to keep a hand on their own.
Sequencing & Key Lines
The Core Rule: Spend First, Swing Second
Your Leader's ability counts DON!! cards on your field, not active DON!!. DON!! you rested to pay for cards earlier in the Main Phase still counts. The ability also only needs one DON!! attached to the Leader. So the default sequence is: attach exactly one DON!! to Kalgara, swing, cheat a Shandian Warrior, then spend whatever DON!! is still active. You can play cards after combat, so you rarely need to choose between the Leader trigger and a hard-cast.
Two cards let you skip the attach entirely. Nami (EB03-053) gives a rested DON!! to your Leader on play, and that can be one of the DON!! you just rested to cast her. Wyper (OP15-114) does the same once per turn with its Activate: Main. With either one available, you can pay full costs and still have the Leader live for the attack.
Standard Lines
Going first (1, 3, 5, 7 DON!!):
- Turn 1: Play Nami (OP15-108) to dig for a Sky Island card. Play Upper Yard here only if you have no Nami.
- Turn 2: Attach one DON!! and spend the other two on Nami or Upper Yard. Swing and play the cost-3 Kalgara from hand. Trash your worst card to its On Play and take up to two Shandian Warriors or Mont Blanc Noland.
- Turn 3: Attach one DON!!, swing and play the cost-5 Kalgara. The Life you pull triggers its draw right away. With the four active DON!! left, hard-cast Raki. Raki's On Play puts a cost-3 Kalgara onto the field from hand, which digs again.
Going second (2, 4, 6 DON!!):
- Turn 1: Play Nami plus Upper Yard. You have no cost-2 Shandian Warrior, so don't attach to the Leader.
- Turn 2: Attach one DON!!, swing and cheat the cost-4 Wyper. It finds and plays Upper Yard, which digs again. Alternatively, cheat Raki, which then puts a cost-3 Kalgara onto the field from hand. Spend the remaining three DON!! on whatever the chain found.
- Turn 3: Cast Nami (EB03-053) and hand the rested DON!! to the Leader. Swing and cheat the cost-6 Wyper off six DON!! on field, keeping one DON!! for a cost-1 card.
Branch Points
- Cheat or don't. The Leader's play is "up to 1," and you only lose a Life card if you actually play something. Cheat when you can rebuild Life this turn with Mont Blanc Noland, Borsalino or Sweet 3 Generals, or when the body matters more than the Life card. Against aggressive decks at two Life with no refill in hand, decline the play.
- Life-neutral turns. Mont Blanc Noland needs a Kalgara Character already on the field. Cheat Kalgara in combat first, then hard-cast Noland afterward to put the Life card back.
- Cast Borsalino after combat. Its refill only works at two or fewer Life. Let the Leader trigger drop you to two first, then cast it.
- Draw-lock ordering. The cost-5 Kalgara draws on the first Life removal each turn, yours or your opponent's. After that, your own effects can't draw for the rest of the turn. If Sweet 3 Generals is coming down, cast it before any attack connects or any Life card moves, or you lose its draw.
- The sweep. The OP15-114 Wyper only K.O.s Characters at 0 power or less. Cast Sweet 3 Generals first to give two targets -3000. Then swing and cheat Wyper so it resolves into the already-shrunk board. Sweet 3 Generals plus its two rested DON!! costs eight, so this is a nine- or ten-DON!! turn.
What to Hold
- A spare Upper Yard with The Earth Will Not Lose! The Event plays Upper Yard from hand during the opponent's turn. That turns a defensive Counter into a free five-card dig.
- A 6000-power body while Nami (EB03-053) is on the field. Its On K.O. puts a Character with 6000 power or less from hand onto the field. Cost-5 Kalgara, Wyper (OP15-114), Mont Blanc Noland and Borsalino all qualify. Cost-6 Wyper and Monkey.D.Luffy do not.
- Zeus for a real target. It costs a Life card. Use it when the cost-5 Kalgara can turn that removal into a draw, or when you can take the bottom Life card instead of a top card you want to keep.
Playing Around Interaction
Your Leader's ability is [When Attacking]. It resolves as soon as you declare the attack, so the cheated Character and the Life card you pull are locked in whether the opponent blocks or counters. Don't load extra DON!! onto the Leader hoping to push through Counters unless that damage is lethal. Put the surplus into post-combat casts instead.
Against Blocker-heavy or Event-heavy opponents, cast Monkey.D.Luffy at six or more DON!! so it has Rush, and attack with it before your Leader. Every Blocker or Event they spend makes Luffy bigger. If your top Life card is face-up from Wyper's or Nami's cost, you know exactly how much bigger.
Against removal, spread your threats across turns. Raki and Borsalino are your Blockers, and Nami (EB03-053) replaces itself when K.O.'d. Keep enough of your engine in hand that one board wipe doesn't end your next Leader trigger.
Matchup Matrix
The rows below are judgments drawn from this list's card text, not results data. The deck's posture shifts by matchup. Against pressure, Life is a resource you protect. Against slower decks, Life is a resource you spend to convert into board and cards.
| Opponent type | Assessment | What decides it | Your key cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aggro / early pressure | Even | Whether you over-spend Life on Leader activations before refills come online | Borsalino, Raki, Mont Blanc Noland, The Earth Will Not Lose! |
| Go-wide midrange | Favored | Landing the Sweet 3 Generals into Wyper (OP15-114) sequence | Sweet 3 Generals, Wyper (OP15-114), Zeus |
| Go-tall midrange | Even | Out-pacing big bodies your removal can't reach | Monkey.D.Luffy, Wyper (OP12-114), Mont Blanc Noland |
| Control / removal-heavy | Favored | Re-deploying faster than they can answer | Kalgara Leader, Kalgara (OP12-099), Nami (EB03-053) |
| Blocker- and Event-reliant defense | Favored | Getting Monkey.D.Luffy onto the board | Monkey.D.Luffy, Upper Yard, Nami (OP15-108) |
| Mirror | Even | Life-card math, and whose engine fires on whose turn | Nami (EB03-053), Kalgara (OP12-099), Sweet 3 Generals |
Aggro / early pressure — Even
Your Leader's [When Attacking] trigger costs you a Life card every time it resolves. Against a deck already taking Life off you, that cost compounds fast. Only activate it when the Character you drop changes the board, not just to dig.
Your stabilizers all have conditions you need to plan around:
- Borsalino refills Life only at 2 or less, and it brings a Blocker.
- Raki blocks and plays the 3-cost Kalgara off its On Play, so one card gives you two bodies.
- Mont Blanc Noland needs a Kalgara Character already on the field. Set that up before you need the Life.
Hold +2000 Counters (Nami OP15-108, Zeus, both 4- and 6-cost Wypers) over developing marginal bodies.
Go-wide midrange — Favored
This is where the list's sweep package shines:
- Cast Sweet 3 Generals first (rest 2 DON!!). It draws, adds a Life card, and gives up to two opposing Characters -3000.
- Then play Wyper (OP15-114). Its On Play K.O.s every opposing Character at 0 power or less after its own power change. That catches whatever the Generals already shrank.
- Do the power math out loud before you commit the face-up Life cost.
Zeus cleans up a single cost-5-or-less threat the sweep misses.
Go-tall midrange — Even
Zeus only reaches cost 5 or less, and the sweep is weak against high-power bodies. Your answer is to race:
- Monkey.D.Luffy gains Rush at 6+ DON!!.
- Wyper (OP12-114) is a 7000 body.
- Mont Blanc Noland and Sweet 3 Generals push your Life back up so the race favors you.
Don't trade cards into their big Characters. Attack their Leader and make them spend resources on defense.
Control / removal-heavy — Favored
Slow games are where your Leader trigger pays off. Each attack converts a Life card into a free Shandian Warrior on board plus a card in hand. With Kalgara (OP12-099) out, removing Life on your turn also draws once. That draw then locks out your other self-draws for the turn, so sequence it last.
Nami (EB03-053) also takes a card off their Life while they sit at 3 or more. On your turn that removal fires the Kalgara (OP12-099) draw as well. Out-grind them; don't overextend into a single sweep.
Blocker- and Event-reliant defense — Favored
Monkey.D.Luffy grows every time your opponent activates an Event or [Blocker]. It reveals your top Life card and gains power equal to that card's cost. That turns their defensive tools into a liability.
You only run two copies, but Luffy is Sky Island type. Upper Yard and Nami (OP15-108) can both find it, so dig aggressively in this matchup.
Mirror — Even
Watch whose turn it is. Kalgara (OP12-099) draws on removals from either player's Life, but only during its controller's turn.
Nami (EB03-053) needs them at 3+ Life, and taking their Life also hands them a card. Use it when the draw for you and the tempo of the ping outweigh the card you give them.
Spend Sweet 3 Generals' -3000 on their low-power support Characters, not on 6000 bodies.
The field to expect
The most-entered Leaders in the window were:
- Rocks.D.Xebec: 46 of 256 entries and 8 of 32 Top 8 slots (source: Limitless TCG online events, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19).
- Luffy & Ace: 31 entries and 6 slots (source: Limitless TCG online events, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19).
- Monkey.D.Luffy OP17-079: 29 entries (source: Limitless TCG online events, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19).
At this event, Luffy & Ace finished 2nd, 4th and 8th behind this list's 6-0 run (source: Limitless TCG, ChinoizeCup #122, 2026-10-13).
Prepare for these Leaders specifically. Classify each one in its first turns by what it does: go wide, go tall, pressure your Life, or sit back. Then run the matching plan above. Kalgara itself had 9 entries in the window (source: Limitless TCG online events, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19), so the mirror is possible but not the main event.
Tech Choices & Variations
The engine is fixed: Kalgara (OP15-101), Nami (OP15-108), Upper Yard, Wyper (OP08-110), Mont Blanc Noland and the Kalgara (OP12-099) draw piece are what make the Leader work. Don't touch them. The real flex lives in the 2-ofs, plus the question of how much defense you want stacked behind them. Since only this list's card text is in front of you, every swap below moves copies between cards already in the 50. Each one comes with a clear trigger for when to make it.
The Flex Slots at a Glance
| Card | Count | Raise it when | Cut it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zeus | 2 | Opponents lean on cost-5-or-less Characters you must remove | You need searchable or Leader-playable slots |
| Raki | 2 | Aggressive fields punish thin defense | Games are decided by card advantage, not early damage |
| Monkey.D.Luffy | 2 | Opponents defend with Events and [Blocker]s | You're losing to counter density |
| Sweet 3 Generals | 2 | Wide boards of small Characters | You need early plays |
| The Earth Will Not Lose! | 2 | You're taking too much damage through Counters | You need more board presence |
Removal Package: Zeus vs. Sweet 3 Generals
Zeus is the cheapest answer in the deck. For 2 cost it K.O.s a Character with cost 5 or less. Its cost is moving a Life card to your hand, and on your turn that also fires Kalgara (OP12-099) for a draw. The catch is that it does nothing for the engine. It isn't {Sky Island}, so Nami (OP15-108) and Upper Yard can't find it. It isn't {Shandian Warrior}, so your Leader can't play it either. Going to 3 is defensible in a removal-hungry field. Going to 4 starts clogging hands that need to be assembling the engine.
Sweet 3 Generals has the same search problem, but it pays you back in two ways. Its [Trigger] plays it for free. Mont Blanc Noland and Borsalino both add cards from the top of your deck to your Life, so every copy you add makes those refills better. On your turn it also draws, adds Life, and gives up to two opposing Characters -3000. Play it before Wyper (OP15-114) and Wyper's K.O.-everything-at-0-or-less clause picks up whatever the -3000 knocked to zero. Raise it to 3 in fields of small, wide boards. Cut Zeus first if you need the room.
Defense: Raki and The Earth Will Not Lose!
Raki is the most engine-friendly flex card in the list. It's {Sky Island}, so your search finds it. It's a cost-4 {Shandian Warrior}, so your Leader can play it from 4 DON!!. Its On Play then puts a cost-3-or-less {Shandian Warrior} from your hand onto the board, which in practice means Kalgara (OP15-101) and another search. You get a [Blocker] plus a search off one Leader attack. Against aggressive decks, going up to 3–4 Raki is the first swap to make. The cost is weak counter value (+1000) and a 4000 body that dies to almost anything.
The Earth Will Not Lose! is typed {Sky Island} {Shandian Warrior}. That makes it findable by Nami (OP15-108), Upper Yard, and Kalgara (OP15-101), so extra copies are unusually easy to dig up for an Event. The +3000 Counter also drops Upper Yard from hand for free, and its [Trigger] is a clean draw-2, trash-1. Going to 3 is the low-risk defensive tweak. The trade-off is one fewer body on a deck that wins through board presence.
Monkey.D.Luffy: The First Cut
Monkey.D.Luffy is searchable and gains [Rush] at 6+ DON!!. It also gets bigger whenever the opponent activates an Event or [Blocker], scaling with the cost of your top Life card. It has no Counter value, though, and your Leader can't play it. If you need room for Raki or a third Event, this is the slot that goes. Keep both copies only if your local field defends mostly with Events and [Blocker]s.
Slots to Leave Alone
- Wyper (OP12-114): It has no ability. It's still a cost-6 {Shandian Warrior} your Leader can play at 6 DON!!, and its +2000 Counter is the best in the deck. Cutting it lowers counter density more than any 2-of costs you.
- Borsalino: It's your [Blocker] and your Life refill at 2 or fewer Life. Note the banned pairing: EB04-058 Borsalino cannot share a deck with OP07-115 I Re-Quasar Helllp!! (source: Bandai official Banned/Restricted Card List, effective 2026-10-12). If you ever want that Event, it costs you all four Borsalino.
Construction Notes
The copy limit is 4 per card number, and the deck must match the Leader's color (source: Bandai official play guide, accessed 2026-10-19). That's why the list legally runs three different Wyper numbers and two each of Kalgara and Nami. Any outside addition has to be yellow and has to earn its slot over a card that the engine searches.
Tuning for Your Room
In online Standard events, Rocks.D.Xebec (OP17-039) took 8 of 32 Top 8 slots and Luffy & Ace (ST30-001) took 6 (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). If your local field looks like that, test the stock list against both first. Then use the table above to decide which way to lean.
- If you're losing early, lean defensive: +Raki and +The Earth Will Not Lose!, cutting Monkey.D.Luffy.
- If you're losing to boards you can't clear, lean toward removal: +Sweet 3 Generals or +Zeus.
Make one swap at a time and replay the matchup before you make another.
Budget Options
The full list runs about $208 at TCGplayer market prices (approximate). Most of the deck is 4-ofs, so that cost is spread across many cards. The way to save money is to know which slots are engine and which are reach. You cannot trim the engine. You can trim the reach.
Where the Money Probably Sits
Price your exact prints before you buy, because individual prices move. The rule that matters most is that parallel and alternate art prints play the same as standard prints. Buy the cheapest legal version of every card. Beyond that, sort the list by how replaceable each card is, not by what it costs:
- Irreplaceable engine: Kalgara (OP08-098 Leader), Upper Yard, Nami (OP15-108), Wyper (OP08-110), Kalgara (OP15-101), Mont Blanc Noland. These are the search and Life-refill package. Nothing else in yellow does their jobs with these exact type and name hooks.
- Power cards, hard to replace: Kalgara (OP12-099), Wyper (OP15-114), Nami (EB03-053), Borsalino. These turn the engine into card advantage, board control and extra Life.
- Flex reach: Monkey.D.Luffy, Sweet 3 Generals, Zeus, Raki, The Earth Will Not Lose!. These are 2-ofs, and you can reshuffle them.
If one of the flex 2-ofs costs a lot for your print, that is where the budget build saves money. If an engine card costs a lot, you pay for it anyway.
Acceptable Swaps and What They Cost You
Every swap below keeps you inside the existing list. You raise lower-count cards to 4 instead of bringing in cards this guide hasn't evaluated. That keeps your type counts intact, which matters. The Leader, Kalgara (OP15-101) and Raki all key off the Shandian Warrior type. Nami (OP15-108) and Upper Yard key off the Sky Island type.
| Cut | Add | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| 2 Monkey.D.Luffy | 2 Raki | You lose a Rush attacker at 6+ DON!! that punishes Blockers and Events. In return you get a Blocker that is also a Shandian Warrior the Leader can drop for free, and its On Play chains a cost-3-or-less Shandian Warrior such as Kalgara (OP15-101). You get more defensive and lose closing speed. |
| 2 Sweet 3 Generals | 2 Zeus | You lose the draw, the Life add, the -3000 on two Characters that sets up Wyper (OP15-114) sweeps, and a free play when it flips as a Trigger. In return you get a cheap +2000 Counter and a direct K.O. that costs you a Life card. This is the biggest power drop on the list. Only make it if the price gap is real. |
| 2 Borsalino | 2 The Earth Will Not Lose! | You lose two 6000-power Blockers that refill Life at 2 or less. In return you get a +3000 Counter that also drops Upper Yard and draws 2 as a Trigger. Your late-game defense gets thinner. Keep at least 2 Borsalino if you can. |
One construction trap to know: Borsalino (EB04-058) cannot share a deck with OP07-115 I Re-Quasar Helllp!! (source: Bandai official Banned/Restricted Card List, effective 2026-10-12). If you fill freed slots from your own collection, check that pairing.
Do not cut Kalgara (OP12-099) or Nami (EB03-053) to save money. Your Leader pulls a Life card into hand every time it plays a Shandian Warrior. Nami (EB03-053) pulls one of your opponent's Life cards. While Kalgara (OP12-099) is on board on your turn, each of those removals triggers a draw. That interaction is a major source of card advantage in the list, and losing it costs you far more than the savings.
Upgrade Path
- Foundation first. Buy the Leader, 4 Upper Yard, 4 Nami (OP15-108), 4 Wyper (OP08-110), 4 Kalgara (OP15-101), 4 Mont Blanc Noland and 4 Wyper (OP12-114). This gets your search engine and Counter density working, so you can learn the sequencing before you own the payoffs.
- Card advantage next. Add 4 Kalgara (OP12-099) and 4 Nami (EB03-053). These two make the Leader's Life-for-tempo trade pay you back.
- Board control. Add 4 Wyper (OP15-114). Its mass K.O. on 0-power Characters is what lets you dig out of a wide board. Until you have it, play more conservatively against decks that go wide.
- Life and defense. Bring Borsalino up to 4. This is the upgrade that most improves your games against aggressive decks.
- Finish with reach. Restore 2 Sweet 3 Generals, then 2 Monkey.D.Luffy, cutting the extra Zeus and Raki copies to return to the winning 2/2/2/2 split.
The budget version keeps the same game plan. It is grindier, with fewer ways to close fast and fewer answers to a wide board. Play it tighter on Life totals and lean on Counters and Blockers until the payoff cards arrive.
Common Mistakes
1. Firing the Leader on autopilot
Your Leader's attack trigger is optional, and it is not free. Every time you cheat out a Shandian Warrior, your top Life card goes to your hand. Against aggro and Rush-heavy decks, using it every turn leaves you at two Life before you have stabilized, and every point of refill in the list depends on board conditions. Before you attack with Kalgara, ask whether the Character you cheat in changes the turn, either by adding pressure you need or by creating a body you must have. If it doesn't, attack and decline the play. The ability's wording lets you decline.
2. Losing the 5-cost Kalgara draw to bad ordering
The 5-cost Kalgara draws when any Life card leaves either player's Life on your turn. That draw then shuts off all your own draw effects for the rest of the turn. In practice you get one draw from it per turn, and it can delete your other draws. The usual error is attacking with the Leader, removing Life, drawing off Kalgara, and then playing Sweet 3 Generals, which loses that card's draw.
Fix: resolve Sweet 3 Generals before anything removes a Life card. That includes your Leader trigger, Zeus, the 5-cost Nami, and your attacks connecting. Also, turning a Life card face-up with the 5-cost Wyper does not remove it, so don't count on that to trigger the draw.
3. Misreading what the Leader can cheat
The Leader only plays Shandian Warrior Characters. In this list, that means Kalgara, Wyper, and Raki. It cannot play Mont Blanc Noland, Monkey.D.Luffy, Borsalino, Nami, Zeus, or Sweet 3 Generals. Players hold Mont Blanc Noland expecting a free drop and end up with a dead hand.
Mont Blanc Noland has a second trap. Its Life gain only happens if you already control a Kalgara Character. If you hard-cast it onto a board without one, you get a 6000-power body and no Life.
4. Leaving the Leader without DON!!
The Leader trigger needs DON!! x1. A common error is spending everything on your main phase and swinging with an unpowered Leader. Two cards in the list attach rested DON!!, so spent DON!! can still turn the ability on:
The opposite mistake also happens. Some players keep DON!! active because they think spending it lowers the cost cap on the Leader's cheat. It doesn't. The cap counts DON!! cards on your field, and rested and attached DON!! both count. Spend freely, then use these two cards to put DON!! back on the Leader.
5. Paying for things the deck plays for free
Several cards in the list play other cards at no cost:
- The 4-cost Wyper plays Upper Yard from your hand.
- The Earth Will Not Lose! also plays Upper Yard from your hand.
- Raki plays the 3-cost Kalgara from your hand.
Paying 1 DON!! for Upper Yard while you hold either of the first two, or hard-casting the 3-cost Kalgara when a Leader-cheated Raki would bring it in, wastes DON!! you need for a second play. The Raki line is especially efficient. One Leader trigger with 4 or more DON!! on field puts out a Blocker and a searcher for a single Life card.
Plan these chains before you spend anything. When you have an Upper Yard and no free way to play it yet, holding it is often correct.
6. Wasting conditional On Plays
Several On Play effects only work under certain conditions:
- Borsalino: it adds Life only if you are at 2 or fewer. At 3 or more it is just a Blocker.
- The 5-cost Nami: it takes a Life card only if your opponent has 3 or more Life.
- Zeus: it removes your own Life to make its K.O.
- Sweet 3 Generals: it wants 2 spare DON!! to rest.
Track both Life totals before committing. If you play Borsalino at 3 Life just because it's castable, you lose its Life refill. In this deck, the Leader's trigger is often what moves you into Borsalino range, so plan the two together. Use the 5-cost Nami while your opponent is still at 3 or higher; once they drop below that, it no longer takes Life.
7. Careless trashing and digging
The 3-cost Kalgara asks you to trash a card before it searches for up to two hits. Don't pitch a +2000 Counter like the 1-cost Nami, Zeus, or the 4- or 6-cost Wyper when you have a weaker card to discard. Better fodder includes:
- an extra Upper Yard
- a 5-cost Borsalino while you are at high Life
- a no-Counter Monkey.D.Luffy that you can't power up to 6 DON!! soon
The searchers also put their misses on the bottom of your deck in any order you choose. You will rarely dig that deep, so don't spend clock time arranging the bottom cards.
Tournament Prep & Final Notes
What to Practice Before the Event
- The Leader free-play turn. Your Leader's cap counts DON!! cards on your field, and rested DON!! are still on your field. Spend your DON!! on your main-phase plays first, then attack and use the Leader to drop a Shandian Warrior for free. Drill getting the required DON!! onto the Leader after you have tapped out. The On Play of Nami (EB03-053) and the Activate: Main of Wyper (OP15-114) both give a rested DON!! to your Leader. That means a turn you spent entirely on Characters can still satisfy the [DON!! x1] condition.
- The sweep sequence. Play Sweet 3 Generals and rest 2 DON!! to give up to two opposing Characters -3000. Then attack with the Leader and play Wyper (OP15-114) from hand for free. Its On Play KOs everything at 0 power or less. Practice the DON!! math until you can see this turn coming two turns ahead.
- Life budgeting. Several cards cost you Life:
- Every Leader activation moves a Life card to your hand.
- Wyper (OP15-114) turns a Life card face-up.
- Zeus pulls a Life card to your hand.
- Search targets. Upper Yard and Nami (OP15-108) only find Sky Island cards. That rules out Mont Blanc Noland, Borsalino, Zeus and Sweet 3 Generals.
- Mont Blanc Noland is reachable only through Kalgara (OP15-101).
- Wyper (OP08-110) finds only Upper Yard.
Rules Interactions to Know Cold
- Sweet 3 Generals off a Trigger. Its On Play is tagged [Your Turn]. When it comes off your Life during your opponent's attack, you get the body and the Counter value but none of the draw, Life or -3000 effects.
- The draw lockout on Kalgara (OP12-099). On your turn, the first time a Life card leaves either player's Life, you draw. After that, you cannot draw with your own effects for the rest of the turn. Resolve the draw from Sweet 3 Generals before the turn's first Life removal. That removal can be your Leader's activation, an attack connecting, the On Play of Nami (EB03-053), or Zeus. Life lost on your opponent's turn never triggers it.
- Mont Blanc Noland needs a Kalgara Character. The Leader doesn't count. If no Kalgara Character is on the field, Noland is just a 6000-power body.
- Conditions checked on play. Borsalino adds Life only if you have 2 or fewer Life cards. Nami (EB03-053) takes a Life card only if your opponent has 3 or more. Order your plays so these conditions are true when the card resolves.
- Raki chains into exactly one card. The only Shandian Warrior in this list at cost 3 or less is Kalgara (OP15-101). Leader into Raki into Kalgara puts three bodies on board, and the last one searches.
- The Earth Will Not Lose! also plays Upper Yard from hand. That triggers the Stage's search on your opponent's turn, so keep a spare Stage in hand when you can.
- Monkey.D.Luffy reveals, it doesn't remove. The power boost doesn't cost you Life and doesn't trigger Kalgara (OP12-099). Count the revealed card's cost before you commit to attacks.
Deck Registration
The current banned list took effect on 2026-10-12 (source: Bandai official Banned/Restricted list, effective 2026-10-12). This list contains none of the banned cards. Borsalino is half of a banned pair with OP07-115 I Re-Quasar Helllp!!, so never add that Event to this deck.
Clock Management
This deck looks at a lot of cards. Look-five effects, Stage searches and chained On Plays add up to long turns, and online events don't wait.
- Bottom-of-deck ordering rarely matters in a 50-card deck. Put the cards back fast unless the game is going long enough to reach them.
- Plan the free-play turn on your opponent's turn. Decide in advance which Shandian Warrior the Leader will drop.
- Announce full lines out loud. Saying "Nami, DON!! to Leader, attack, Wyper" keeps you honest and fast.
Final Assessment
The list went 6-0 to win a 64-player event, and a second Kalgara player finished 5th in the same field (source: Limitless TCG, ChinoizeCup #122 standings, 2026-10-13). Across the four qualifying online events, Kalgara took 3 Top 8 slots from just 9 of 256 entries (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). That's a strong showing, but it's a small sample from online events only.
Spend most of your testing against the two Leaders most likely to sit across from you:
- Rocks.D.Xebec took 8 of 32 Top 8 slots from 46 of 256 entries.
- Luffy & Ace took 6 slots from 31 entries.
(source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19)
The deck rewards precise accounting more than raw card quality. Its card advantage is real, but every activation trades Life for tempo. Pick it up if you're willing to count DON!! and Life on every single turn. If you are, it's a strong choice.
