Archetype Overview
Donquixote Rosinante is a Purple-Yellow Blocker deck built around a single name. Twelve of the Characters in the 50 are printed as Trafalgar Law, and Rosinante & Law also counts as Trafalgar Law under the rules. That gives you a deep pool of Law-named bodies that your Leader cheats out, protects, and recurs. The list took 2nd place at ChinoizeCup #125 TUESDAY (2026-10-20), a 120-player event, played by Limitless user FlyestRaven.
What the Deck Is
This is a defensive midrange deck. It wins by making every attack into your board expensive and every removal spell inefficient. The Character suite is mostly Blockers: the cost-4 Law printings with [Blocker], Borsalino, and Rosinante & Law. Behind them sits a counter-heavy Event package of Mamaragan, I Love You!!, Divine Departure, and Slow-Slow Beam Sword. Searchers do the setup work. Sugar finds Donquixote Pirates cards, while Koby and Marineford find Navy cards.
The top end is Sakazuki. It offers a -6000 power swing that lasts through your opponent's next End Phase, plus a once-per-turn DON!! accelerator that works because your Leader has the Navy type.
The Engine
The Leader has two halves, and both point at Law.
- Cost reduction. For 1 DON!!, your next Law costing 4 or more played from hand costs 2 less that turn. A cost-4 Law comes down for 2, which leaves room to develop a second piece. Rosinante & Law drops from 6 to 4. The cost-8 Trafalgar Law with [Rush] drops to 6.
- K.O. protection. Once per turn, when a Law would be K.O.'d, you can add your top Life card to hand instead. Your opponent's removal or winning battle becomes a card for you, and your Blocker stays on the field.
This K.O. protection pulls your Life down on purpose, and the rest of the list rewards that.
- Borsalino refills Life on play once you are at 2 or fewer.
- I Love You!! returns a Law from trash to hand at that same threshold.
- The cost-8 Trafalgar Law can trash itself and a card from hand to add a Life card. It then plays a Law costing 7 or less straight from hand, and Rosinante & Law qualifies.
Running at low Life is a resource state for this deck. You convert Life into hand, then rebuild it on your own terms.
The DON!! side matters too. The cost-4 Blocker Law and Rosinante & Law both ramp DON!! on play, and Rosinante & Law also draws a card. Both require your DON!! count on field to be equal to or less than your opponent's. On your own turn you normally sit one DON!! ahead until both players reach 10, so this condition usually needs help.
- Help can come from the list's own DON!! -1 costs: Sakazuki's On Play, the hand-disruption Law, or Slow-Slow Beam Sword cast on the previous turn.
- It can also come from an opponent who spends DON!! aggressively.
- Sakazuki's activated ramp pushes you back ahead, so the order you use these effects in genuinely matters.
One printing note: the Event Pack Trafalgar Law's Trigger requires a Supernovas Leader, which Donquixote Rosinante is not. In this list it plays as a 5000 body with a +2000 Counter and nothing more.
Why the Plan Is Strong
- Removal is taxed. The first Law K.O. each turn hands you a card and leaves the body in play. Opponents have to spend twice to clear one Blocker, or route around it entirely.
- Tempo through cost reduction. Discounting a 6000-power Blocker to 2 lets you develop and still hold DON!! for Slow-Slow Beam Sword or the Leader's next activation. Mana-for-mana, you put more power on board than a curve-out deck expects.
- Counters that generate cards. Mamaragan draws when you have 6 or fewer DON!! on field. I Love You!! recurs a Law at low Life. Slow-Slow Beam Sword rests an opposing Character while defending. Your defense often leaves you up on cards.
- Consistency. Sugar, Koby, and Marineford all dig five cards deep. Marineford's draw-and-trash ability keeps working every turn after it lands. You find Rosinante & Law, Sakazuki, and Borsalino far more reliably than raw card counts suggest.
- Inevitability. Sakazuki ramps you toward a full DON!! area faster than the default curve. A board of 8000-power bodies backed by Life refills and Law recursion grinds out decks that cannot finish you quickly.
Who Should Pick It Up
Pick this deck up if you like winning games by refusing to lose them. You need to be comfortable doing three things:
- Sitting at 2 Life with a plan.
- Counting DON!! on both sides of the table every turn.
- Deciding which Law is worth spending the Leader's protection on.
The deck punishes autopilot. Burning the K.O. replacement on a low-value body, or ramping with Sakazuki before landing a parity-dependent Law, costs real resources.
If you want to end games on a fast clock, look elsewhere; this list's damage comes slowly and late. If you are a patient, reactive player who enjoys out-valuing opponents through a long game, this is the Leader for you. At an estimated total around $352, it is also a mid-range investment rather than a top-shelf one.
Core Strategy & Game Plan
This deck wins by making its board impossible to remove efficiently. Every Trafalgar Law and Rosinante & Law you play is a Blocker or a value body that your Leader protects from K.O. Your hand refills off your own Life. Low-Life thresholds turn Borsalino and I Love You!! into recovery tools. You are not racing. You build a wall the opponent has to break, out-card them while they try, and turn sideways once their board is rested or shrunk.
Posture: Reactive Midrange That Ramps
On the opponent's turn you are a control deck: Blockers, Counter Events and a Leader effect that keeps one Law alive each turn. On your own turn you develop and ramp. The Leader discount, Rosinante & Law, the 6000-power Blocker Trafalgar Law (P-093) and Sakazuki all push you toward big plays ahead of curve. Your proactive turns should still leave Blockers standing. A turn where you tap out for damage and leave no Blocker is usually a mistake.
The Engine
- The Leader discount. For DON!! 1, the next Law you play this turn with cost 4 or more costs 2 less. Rosinante & Law counts as Trafalgar Law, so the discount applies to it:
- 4-cost Laws come down for 2.
- Rosinante & Law comes down for 4.
- The 8-cost Rush Trafalgar Law (EB03-062) comes down for 6.
- Life as a resource. Once per turn, when a Law would be K.O.'d, you can add your top Life card to hand instead. Blocking with a Law is close to free. You keep the body and gain a card, but you spend a Life to do it. That spending is deliberate. At 2 or less Life, two cards turn on:
- Borsalino puts a card back on top of your Life.
- I Love You!! returns a Law from trash to hand.
- DON!! parity. Rosinante & Law and the P-093 Trafalgar Law only ramp if your DON!! on field is equal to or less than your opponent's. On your own turn you have usually just gained DON!!, so you start a step ahead. Three ways to reach parity:
- Use the DON!! -1 on Slow-Slow Beam Sword during their turn, which leaves you lower going into yours.
- Pay the DON!! -1 on Sakazuki or the ST10-010 Trafalgar Law before the parity card.
- Both players reach the 10 DON!! cap.
- Digging. Sugar finds Donquixote Pirates cards: Rosinante & Law, I Love You!! or another Sugar. Koby and Marineford find Navy cards: Borsalino, Sakazuki, Rosinante & Law, Marineford and I Love You!!. Use these early to assemble Rosinante & Law and your Blocker curve. Later, Marineford's activation turns dead cards into fresh draws.
The Ideal Game, by DON!! Count
- 1–2 DON!!: Set up.
- Marineford or Koby digs immediately.
- Sugar plus its activation needs 2 DON!! total.
- Prioritize finding Rosinante & Law and a 4-cost Law.
- 3–4 DON!!: Leader activation plus a 4-cost Trafalgar Law for 2 puts a 5000–6000 Blocker on board with DON!! to spare.
- At 4 DON!!, add Sugar or a Marineford activation.
- If you are at parity, play P-093 first for its rested DON!!.
- 5–6 DON!!: Leader activation plus Rosinante & Law for 4 gives you an 8000-power Blocker.
- At parity, it also draws a card and gives an active DON!! you can spend the same turn.
- Borsalino fits here once you are at 2 or less Life.
- This stretch is where the wall comes together.
- 7+ DON!!: You have two strong lines.
- Sakazuki: Pay the DON!! -1 to give a threat -6000 through the opponent's next End Phase. That shrinks their attacker on their turn, not just a blocker on yours. Activate its ramp on a later turn when you have a spare active DON!!.
- Rush Trafalgar Law: Leader activation plus EB03-062 for 6. Attack with the 6000 Rush body. Then trash a card from hand and trash Law to add a card to Life. This also plays a Law costing 7 or less from hand for free, ideally Rosinante & Law, so you add Life and refill your Blocker line in one turn.
Defending the Wall
Your Counter Events determine which Characters survive:
- Mamaragan: +1000, and draws a card while you have 6 or less DON!! on field. It replaces itself in the early and mid game.
- I Love You!!: +2000. It is the best late Counter because it recovers a Law at low Life.
- Slow-Slow Beam Sword: +2000 and rests an opposing Character, which can stop a follow-up attacker that has not swung yet. Its DON!! -1 also sets up parity for your next turn.
- Divine Departure: Its Counter mode trades a card from hand for +3000 when one block decides the game.
The Leader's replacement works once per turn. Plan to let your first Law "die" into the replacement, then protect a second Law with Counters.
Closing
You close once the opponent's board can't block. Two tools clear the way:
- The Mamaragan Main mode draws a card and rests a 5000-or-less Character, removing a blocker for your attacks.
- Sakazuki's shrink makes their remaining defender easy to push through.
Commit attacks only after your next turn's wall is secure. Your 8000 Blockers and the K.O. replacement buy time, and the opponent usually runs out of resources before you do.
Card Choices & Breakdown
The Search Package: Sugar, Koby, Marineford
This list runs a lot of 1-cost searchers because its payoffs are spread across three different search types. Each searcher covers a different part of the deck.
- Sugar (4 + 2): The OP10-065 Sugar rests one DON!! and itself to look at five cards for a Donquixote Pirates card. In this list that type hits Rosinante & Law and I Love You!!. It does not hit the Heart Pirates Laws. Because it is an Activate: Main, you can drop it early and fire it on a later turn. It also carries a +1000 Counter if you need it as a defensive card instead. The second Sugar entry has no text in this breakdown, so treat it as two more 1-cost slots alongside the playset.
- Koby (2): Its On Play looks at five cards for a Navy card other than Koby. That covers Borsalino, Sakazuki, Rosinante & Law, Marineford and I Love You!!. It runs at two copies because Marineford already does the same Navy search, and a 2000-power body is a modest upgrade over Sugar, not a reason to max out.
- Marineford (4): It makes the same Navy search on play and then stays on the board. Its activated ability pays DON!! 1 and rests the Stage to draw 1 and trash 1. That loot matters more than it looks: any Law you trash becomes a target for I Love You!! once you're at 2 or fewer Life.
The Law Engine
Your Leader rewards one thing: putting Trafalgar Law cards on the board. Its Activate: Main discount takes 2 off the next Law costing 4 or more that you play from hand this turn. Its Once Per Turn replacement turns a Law K.O. into taking your top Life card into hand.
- Cost-4 Trafalgar Law (4 / 4 / 3 across three printings): With the discount, each of these costs 2. That is why the deck can deploy them so densely.
- P-093 is a 6000 Blocker. If your DON!! on field is equal to or below your opponent's, it adds a rested DON!!.
- ST10-010 is a 5000 Blocker. Its On Play returns a DON!! to strip 2 cards from an opponent holding 7 or more.
- P-088's Trigger needs a Supernovas Leader, which you don't have. It is here as a 5000 body with a +2000 Counter that the Leader can discount and I Love You!! can recur.
- Rosinante & Law (4): This card counts as both Trafalgar Law and Donquixote Rosinante. That means it takes the Leader discount (cost 6 becomes 4) and is protected by the Leader's K.O. replacement. It is an 8000 Blocker. If your DON!! count is at or below your opponent's, its On Play draws a card and adds an active DON!!. It is also searchable by all three of your search cards, which is why it is a four-of.
- Trafalgar Law EB03-062 (1): This is your top end. The discount brings it from 8 to 6, and it has Rush. Its Activate: Main trashes a card from hand and the Law itself to add your top deck card to Life. It then plays a Law costing 7 or less from hand, such as Rosinante & Law. One copy is enough: it is a finisher and a Life refill, not something you need to draw every game.
Navy Top End
- Borsalino (4): A 6000 Blocker with a +1000 Counter. At 2 or fewer Life, its On Play adds a card to your Life. Your Leader pulls Life into hand every time it saves a Law, so you will hit that threshold naturally. Borsalino then refills the Life you spent.
- Sakazuki (4): This is your removal and ramp in one card.
- Its On Play returns a DON!! to give an opposing Character -6000 through your opponent's next End Phase.
- Its Once Per Turn activate rests a DON!! to add two active DON!!, which works because your Leader is Navy.
Events
- Mamaragan (4): A cost-0 Event with two modes.
- Counter mode: +1000, plus a card if you have 6 or fewer DON!! on field. That condition is almost always met in the early and middle turns.
- Main mode: pays DON!! 2 to draw a card and rest a 5000-or-less Character, which clears a path for your attacks.
- I Love You!! (4): +2000 for 1. Below 3 Life, it also returns a Law from trash to hand. That turns the late game, where you are low on Life, into a loop of Laws coming back.
- You Need Me, Don't You?!!♡ (4): No text for it is given here. As a full playset, treat it as core to the list, not a flex slot.
- Divine Departure (1): Its Counter mode trashes a card from hand for +3000. It is the biggest single Counter in the deck. The card cost is why it stays at one copy.
- Slow-Slow Beam Sword (1): A 2-cost Counter that returns a DON!! for +2000 and rests an opposing Character. If it flips as a Trigger, it adds an active DON!!. It is a single copy of tempo-swinging defense, not a staple.
Reading the Numbers
The playsets sit where the engine needs consistency: searchers, cost-4 Laws, Rosinante & Law, Borsalino, Sakazuki, and the cheap Counters. The single copies are the cards you only need once per game or that cost you a card to use: EB03-062 Trafalgar Law, Divine Departure and Slow-Slow Beam Sword.
Several cards in the list return DON!! to your DON!! deck: Sakazuki, ST10-010 Law and Slow-Slow Beam Sword. That works alongside Sakazuki's ramp to manage your DON!! count around the parity conditions, rather than simply growing your DON!! every turn.
The Decklist
This is the exact 50 that finished 2nd at ChinoizeCup #125 Tuesday (2026-10-20) in a 120-player field, played by FlyestRaven. It costs about $352 at TCGplayer market prices. The build is purple-yellow and Law-dense, with a ramp top end and a Counter suite that leans on Events instead of Character Counter values. Lines marked flex are where you have room to adjust. Everything else is the engine.
Leader
| Qty | Card | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Donquixote Rosinante | Once per turn, a Law K.O. becomes a Life card in your hand. For DON!! 1, your next cost-4+ Law costs 2 less. |
Characters (32)
| Qty | Card | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Sugar | Early searcher entry. |
| 2 | Sugar | Second Sugar entry. Flex: this is the trim if you want another top-end or Counter card. |
| 2 | Koby | On Play, digs for a Navy card. Flex between 2 and 4. |
| 4 | Trafalgar Law | Core Law package. |
| 4 | Trafalgar Law | Core Law package. |
| 3 | Trafalgar Law | Core Law package. The one count short of a playset. |
| 1 | Trafalgar Law | Flex single-copy Law. |
| 4 | Borsalino | 6000 Blocker. At 2 or less Life, adds a card to your Life. |
| 4 | Rosinante & Law | Named Trafalgar Law, so the Leader discount and K.O. protection both apply. 8000 Blocker that draws and ramps. |
| 4 | Sakazuki | On Play gives -6000. Ramps 2 active DON!! under your Navy Leader. |
The four Law entries aren't tagged by set number, so confirm which printing sits at which count before you buy. The Law printings in our card reference fill these roles:
- P-088: a 5000 body with a +2000 Counter, the best Counter value among the Laws.
- P-093: a 6000 Blocker that adds a rested DON!! when you're at parity or behind on DON!!.
- ST10-010: a Blocker that can trash 2 cards from a hand of 7 or more.
- EB03-062: a cost-8 Rush Law that converts itself into a Life card and a free Law from hand, cost 7 or less.
Events (14)
| Qty | Card | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Mamaragan | Cost 0. A Counter that also draws, or a Main-phase draw plus a rest. |
| 4 | You Need Me, Don't You?!!♡ | Full playset. Treat it as core. |
| 4 | I Love You!! | +2000 Counter. At 2 or less Life, returns a Law from trash, and Rosinante & Law counts. |
| 1 | Divine Departure | Flex: a +3000 Counter that costs you a card from hand. |
| 1 | Slow-Slow Beam Sword | Flex: a +2000 Counter that also rests an opposing Character. Its Trigger ramps an active DON!!. |
Stage (4)
| Qty | Card | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 4 | Marineford | On Play, searches a Navy card. Later it becomes a DON!! 1 draw-and-trash filter. |
The Navy search net is wide. Koby and Marineford can find Borsalino, Sakazuki, Rosinante & Law, Marineford and I Love You!!, and Koby can also find Koby's own targets but not itself. Sugar finds Donquixote Pirates cards, which here means Rosinante & Law, I Love You!! and Sugar. Cut search pieces only if you're replacing them with something that keeps hitting those targets.
Opening Hands & Mulligan
Donquixote Rosinante wants a cost-4 Trafalgar Law on the board as early as possible. Its [Activate: Main] makes your next Law of cost 4 or more cost 2 less, so a cost-4 Law comes down for 3 DON!! in total. Judge every opener by one question: can this hand put a Law down on curve and still have Counters left to protect it?
Turn-by-Turn Curve
| Turn | Going first (DON!!) | Going second (DON!!) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1: Koby or Marineford | 2: Sugar plus its activation, or Koby plus Marineford |
| 2 | 3: Leader activation plus a cost-4 Trafalgar Law for 2 | 4: Leader activation, a cost-4 Law and a 1-cost card |
| 3 | 5: Leader activation plus Rosinante & Law for 4, or Borsalino | 6: Leader activation, Rosinante & Law and a 1-cost card |
| 4 | 7: Sakazuki, or Leader activation plus the cost-8 Trafalgar Law for 6 | 8: Sakazuki plus its activation to add 2 active DON!! |
Rosinante & Law counts as Trafalgar Law by name, so the Leader's cost reduction applies to it.
Hands You Keep
- A cost-4 Law, a 1-cost searcher and Counters. This is the ideal hand. The Law is your turn-2 play. The searcher smooths your curve. Cards like I Love You!! and Mamaragan keep the Law alive.
- A cost-4 Law with no searcher. Keep it if the rest of the hand has Counter value. The Law is the card this Leader exists to cheat out, and your searchers can't find it.
- Two searchers with no cost-4 Law, going second only. With 2 DON!! on turn 1 you can resolve both searches, and you have the DON!! to slam Rosinante & Law or Borsalino on turn 3.
Know what your searchers reach. Koby and Marineford find Navy cards: Borsalino, Rosinante & Law, Sakazuki, I Love You!! and Marineford (Marineford can also find Koby). Sugar finds Donquixote Pirates cards: Rosinante & Law, I Love You!! and another Sugar. None of them finds a Heart Pirates cost-4 Law. A hand that needs a searcher to produce its turn-2 Law is not a turn-2 Law hand.
Hands You Send Back
- No Law and no searcher. You have nothing to do with your Leader until turn 3 at the earliest.
- Top-heavy hands. Sakazuki, the cost-8 Trafalgar Law and Borsalino with no early play is a hand that loses tempo. It also draws nothing toward the Law you need.
- Event-only hands. A full grip of Counters is fine defense, but without a board you can't use the Leader at all.
You only get one redraw, so the second five cards are your game. Mulligan for function, not for perfection.
Going First
Your turn 1 has 1 DON!!. That means Sugar can come down, but its search needs a second DON!! to rest. Koby and Marineford are better turn-1 plays because their On Play searches resolve immediately.
Turn 2 is exactly 3 DON!!, which is the Leader activation plus a cost-4 Law and nothing more. Holding a cost-4 Law matters most here. A first-player hand without one should be kept only if it has a searcher and real Counter density.
Going Second
With 2 DON!! on turn 1, Sugar can play and search on the same turn. Koby plus Marineford digs 10 cards deep. On turn 2 you have a spare DON!! beyond the Leader-plus-Law line, so add a 1-cost.
The second player can keep looser, searcher-heavy hands. The extra DON!! covers a missing early Law.
Don't Count On Early Parity
The On Play effects on the Blocker Trafalgar Law that adds a rested DON!! and on Rosinante & Law both check DON!! on field. That count includes rested cards. On a normal curve, you are one DON!! ahead of your opponent during your own main phase, whether you went first or second. Those conditions usually fail early unless you have returned DON!! with a DON!! −1 cost, such as the other Blocker Law's On Play, Sakazuki or Slow-Slow Beam Sword. Value those cards as bodies when judging an opener, not as ramp or draw.
Matchup Adjustments
- Against aggro. Prioritize Blockers and Counters over searchers. The two Blocker cost-4 Laws come down on turn 2, and the Leader's replacement effect keeps one on the field by taking a Life card instead of letting it be K.O.'d. Add I Love You!!, Mamaragan or Divine Departure, and the hand is a keep even without a searcher. Mamaragan's Counter draws a card while you have 6 or fewer DON!! on field, so early it costs you nothing in card count.
- Against go-wide decks. Hands with Mamaragan are stronger here. Its [Main] mode rests a Character with 5000 power or less and draws a card, which helps you hold the board while your Laws set up.
- Against slow decks that build big hands. You have time, so keep greedier hands with Sakazuki or Rosinante & Law backed by searchers. The DON!! −1 Law's hand trash needs your opponent at 7 or more cards. It is a mid-game punish against these decks, not a reason to keep a hand early.
Sequencing & Key Lines
Turns 1-2: Build the Engine First
Your early turns are for card selection, not pressure. Going first with 1 DON!!, lead with Marineford. It searches a Navy card on play and stays on the board as a loot outlet for the rest of the game. Going second with 2 DON!!, play Sugar and use it immediately: rest a DON!! and Sugar to look at five cards for a Donquixote Pirates card. Sugar has no Once Per Turn limit beyond needing to be active, so every Sugar that survives is a dig every turn for 1 DON!!. If you have no Sugar, play Koby plus Marineford for two Navy searches.
When searching, take Rosinante & Law whenever you see it. It's the one card that all three search pools can find, and every other mid-game line runs through it. After that, a Navy searcher takes Sakazuki or Borsalino depending on how much life pressure you're facing.
The Parity Check
The ramp on Trafalgar Law (P-093) and the draw and ramp on Rosinante & Law only fire if your DON!! on field is equal to or less than your opponent's. Each player gains 2 DON!! per turn, and the first player gains only 1 on turn 1 (source: Bandai official play guide, accessed 2026-10-19). Because of that, you normally sit one DON!! ahead during your own turn. Your DON!! -1 effects close that gap:
- On your turn: resolve Sakazuki's On Play DON!! -1 before playing a parity card, never after.
- On their turn: paying Slow-Slow Beam Sword's DON!! -1 as a Counter leaves you level after your next refresh. That sets up a full-value Rosinante & Law or Trafalgar Law (P-093) the following turn.
Count both fields out loud before every Law play. Missing the parity window by one DON!! costs you a card and a DON!!.
The Core Mid-Game Line
With 7 DON!! and both Trafalgar Law (EB03-062) and Rosinante & Law in hand:
- Pay the Donquixote Rosinante activation, then play Trafalgar Law (EB03-062) for 6.
- Attack with it using Rush.
- After combat, activate it. Trash a card from hand, ideally a spare Law so I Love You!! can retrieve it later, and trash EB03-062 itself.
- Add the top card of your deck to Life, then play Rosinante & Law free from hand. Its On Play still checks parity.
You end the turn with an 8000 Blocker, a Life card back, a swing already taken, and a Law in the trash for I Love You!! to recover. If you have no Rosinante & Law, the free play can be any Law of cost 7 or less in hand.
The Leader discount is Once Per Turn and always saves 2. Activate it on any turn you're playing a 4-cost-or-higher Law, but only once the Law is in hand. It applies to the next qualifying play, so activate it immediately before that play.
The Sakazuki Turn
Play Sakazuki with 8 DON!!, not 7. With 8, the sequence works out:
- Play Sakazuki using 7 DON!!, which leaves 1 active.
- Pay the On Play DON!! -1 by returning a spent DON!!, and give an opposing Character -6000.
- Rest your remaining active DON!! for its Activate. Your Leader has the Navy type, so you gain 2 active DON!!.
- Spend those 2 on a Sugar dig and a Marineford loot, or attach them for attacks.
The -6000 lasts through the end of your opponent's next End Phase. Aim it at their biggest attacker to blunt their next turn, or at a Blocker to open your attacks now.
Defense: Counter Order by Life Total
- Life 3-4, 6 or fewer DON!!: counter with Mamaragan first. It's free and draws a card.
- Life 2 or less: switch to I Love You!!. You get the same +2000, plus a Law back from the trash.
- Multiple attackers coming: fire Slow-Slow Beam Sword early in the sequence and rest a Character that hasn't attacked yet. Its value is the attack it prevents.
- Divine Departure: the +3000 Counter costs a card from hand. Save it for the hit that would otherwise end the game.
Once you're at 7+ DON!!, Mamaragan's Counter stops drawing. Use its Main mode on your own turn instead to rest a 5000-or-less Blocker before you attack.
Using the Leader Replacement
Whatever you face, your Law Blockers are the targets, through battle or effects. The replacement turns a lost Law into a Life card in hand, which changes how you block:
- Block freely with Laws. The first K.O. each turn becomes a card instead of a loss.
- Spend it on purpose at 3 Life. Dropping to 2 turns on Borsalino and I Love You!!.
- Don't use it at 1 Life to save a minor body. Emptying your Life means the next Leader hit loses you the game.
- Save it if more threats are coming. It's optional and Once Per Turn. If your opponent shows they have more than one way to remove Characters, let a 5000 Law go and keep the replacement for Rosinante & Law.
Small Edges
- Loot with Marineford at the end of your Main Phase. That way you know which Law is surplus to trash for I Love You!!.
- Play Borsalino after you've dropped to 2 Life, not before. You get the 6000 Blocker either way, but the Life gain only fires at 2 or less.
- Trafalgar Law (P-088)'s Trigger needs a Supernovas Leader, which Donquixote Rosinante isn't. Treat it as a +2000 Counter first and a body second.

Rocks.D.Xebec
Xebec is the deck to beat. It took 8 of 32 Top 8 slots and reached Top 8 in all 4 counted events (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). Every one of those lists ran the same eight cards at four copies. That makes them predictable, so learn that core cold before the event. Your plan is to get two Blockers down by the time they commit, using Trafalgar Law (P-093/ST10-010), Borsalino and Rosinante & Law. Fire Sakazuki's -6000 on the Character most likely to swing at you next turn. The debuff lasts through their next End Phase, so it works as defense as well as offense.
Luffy & Ace
Luffy & Ace took 6 Top 8 slots from 31 entries without a win (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). Like Xebec, its lists share a seven-card 4-of core, so it plays out similarly from game to game. Win this one on Counter efficiency. Mamaragan's Counter side replaces itself while you're at 6 or fewer DON!!, so use it early. Save I Love You!! for when you're at 2 or fewer Life, where it also returns a Law from trash. For that side of the matchup, see our Luffy & Ace Standard guide.
Monkey.D.Luffy (OP17-079)
This Luffy took 3 Top 8 slots from 29 entries and won ChinoizeCup #118, the event where Rosinante finished 2nd (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-05). Your payoffs turn on at 2 Life: Borsalino refills your Life and I Love You!! recurs Law. Don't Counter every hit at 4 and 3 Life. Let damage through early and keep your Counters for the turns when you're at 2 or fewer. For the opposing view, see our Monkey.D.Luffy Standard guide.
Kalgara
Kalgara is a small sample with a sharp result: 9 entries, 3 Top 8 slots, and a win at ChinoizeCup #122 (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). Win the tempo race. Use your Leader's DON!! 1 cost reduction to land Rosinante & Law a turn early. Its draw and active DON!! fire if your DON!! count is at or below theirs, which is easiest when you're going second. For their side, see our Kalgara Standard guide.
Sabo
Sabo had 18 entries for 2 Top 8 slots and finished 3rd at #118 (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). Treat it as a grind and keep your hand full. Use Sugar to find Donquixote Pirates cards, use Koby and Marineford to dig for Navy, and use the Stage's loot to turn dead Events into Laws. For more on their plan, see our Sabo Standard guide.
Rosinante Mirror
The mirror had 12 entries and 2 Top 8 slots in the window (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). Both Leaders replace only one Law K.O. per turn, so attack two Laws in the same turn. The first K.O. only moves a Life card to their hand; the second one sticks. Keep an eye on DON!! parity. Sakazuki's activated ramp puts you ahead on DON!!, which turns off your own P-093 Law and Rosinante & Law bonuses. Play those before you ramp.
Wide Aggro
This is favored. You run four Blocker Characters across 15 copies, plus Counter Events that reward low Life. Every Life card your Leader moves to hand is a card you can use to block or Counter.
Removal That Rests or Trashes
This is unfavored. Your Leader's protection only applies to K.O., so it does nothing against rest, trash or bounce effects. Spread your threats instead of stacking DON!! on one Law. Use Trafalgar Law (EB03-062) to rebuild: it adds a Life card, then plays a Law from hand.
Big-Hand Value Decks
This is favored. When they reach 7 or more cards in hand, ST10-010 Trafalgar Law trashes 2 of them for DON!! -1. Hold it until they hit that number rather than playing it on curve.
Tech Choices & Variations
Most of this 50 is locked. The four-copy pieces are the deck: the cost-4 Trafalgar Law package, Rosinante & Law, Sakazuki, Mamaragan, I Love You!!, You Need Me, Don't You?!!♡ and the search suite. The real flex lives in five places: the two single-copy Events, the searcher split, the one missing cost-4 Law, the top-end Law count, and Borsalino.
The Single-Copy Events
Divine Departure and Slow-Slow Beam Sword are the deck's two highest-impact Counters. Neither is a four-of because each one taxes something you need for your main plan.
- Divine Departure: A 0-cost +3000 Counter that costs you a card from hand. It matters late, because Mamaragan's Counter only draws when you have 6 or less DON!! on field. Once Sakazuki has ramped you past that, Mamaragan is a plain +1000, and the flat +3000 does more work. Add a second copy if your games often reach high DON!! counts against aggressive Leaders. The cost is card economy you need for the Life-to-hand plan.
- Slow-Slow Beam Sword: +2000 plus resting an opposing Character is a real tempo swing on your next turn. It costs 2 and returns a DON!! to your DON!! deck. That fights the turns where you want DON!! for the Leader's cost reduction or for Sakazuki. Its Trigger gives that DON!! back as an active card, which softens the tax. A second copy is the best addition against decks that win with a wide board.
The Searcher Split
You run six Sugar, two Koby and four Marineford. They find different halves of the deck.
- Koby and Marineford find Navy cards: Borsalino, Rosinante & Law, Sakazuki and each other.
- Sugar (the four-copy printing) finds Donquixote Pirates cards: Rosinante & Law and I Love You!!. You activate it by resting a DON!! and the Character, so it eats tempo on the turn you use it.
If you keep missing Sakazuki on curve, swap a third Koby for one copy of the two-copy Sugar printing. That gives you a 2000-power body and On Play search that costs no DON!!. The trade-off is fewer hits on I Love You!!.
Marineford at three is also defensible. Its Activate filter costs a DON!! and a card, which is slow, and the freed slot can fund a fourth cost-4 Law or a second Slow-Slow Beam Sword.
The Law Curve
Each card number caps at four copies. The three cost-4 printings sit at 4/4/3, so one slot is open there.
Know what each printing does under this Leader:
- The Event Pack Vol. 7 Law: Its Trigger requires a Supernovas Leader, so it is dead here. It is in the deck for its +2000 Counter and as another Law your Leader can protect.
- The other two printings: Both are Blockers. The Illustration Box Vol.6 copy ramps you when you are behind on DON!!. The ST10-010 copy punishes opponents sitting at 7 or more cards in hand.
Fill the open slot based on your field:
- Against aggressive Leaders, take the counter value.
- Against hand-heavy control, take the hand trash.
The cost-8 Trafalgar Law is a one-of on purpose. Your Leader drops it to 6. It has Rush, and its Activate adds a Life and then plays a Law of cost 7 or less from hand. Rosinante & Law counts as a Law for that. A second copy gives you more late reach against slow decks, but it is a brick in openers and an awkward Counter. Keep it at one unless your local field is grindy.
The Borsalino Count
Borsalino's On Play only works at 2 or less Life. Above that, it is a 6000 Blocker with a +1000 Counter. Against slower decks that rarely push you that low, three copies is fine, and the slot goes to the counter suite.
One hard rule: Borsalino (EB04-058) is a banned pair with I Re-Quasar Helllp!! (OP07-115), so the two can never share a deck (source: Bandai official banned list, effective 2026-10-12).
Tuning for Your Local Field
For context, Rocks.D.Xebec was the most-entered Leader in the online data, at 46 of 256 entries and 8 of 32 Top 8 slots (source: Limitless TCG online events, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). That is online play, though. Scout your own store before you settle the last few slots.
| Expected field | Lean toward | Trim |
|---|---|---|
| Aggressive, fast Life pressure | 2nd Divine Departure, counter-heavy cost-4 Law, 4 Borsalino | 1 Marineford |
| Wide boards, many small Characters | 2nd Slow-Slow Beam Sword, 3rd Koby for Sakazuki access | 1 two-copy Sugar printing |
| Slow, big-hand control | ST10-010 Law to 4, 2nd cost-8 Trafalgar Law | 1 Borsalino, 1 Marineford |
Whatever you change, keep the Law count high. Your Leader's replacement effect only protects Characters named Trafalgar Law, and every cut from that package weakens your defense.
Budget Options
The full list comes in at about $352 at TCGplayer market prices. Prices move, so check current listings before you buy. The cost likely concentrates in a few places, and the deck's card text shows which of those places you can safely trim.
Where the Cost Likely Sits
- Promo Law printings. The P-088 Trafalgar Law comes from Event Pack Vol. 7, and the P-093 Trafalgar Law comes from Illustration Box Vol.6. Their supply depends on those specific products rather than regular booster sets, so full playsets are likely the hardest to collect.
- Extra Booster cards. Rosinante & Law and Borsalino (EB04) and the cost-8 Trafalgar Law (EB03).
- Four-of playsets of the newer core. Sakazuki, Mamaragan and Marineford.
The ST10-010 Trafalgar Law is a starter-deck printing, which is usually the easiest version to find.
What You Cannot Cut
Some cards have no stand-in anywhere in the deck's colors:
- Donquixote Rosinante is the deck itself.
- Rosinante & Law is an 8000 Blocker that counts as a Law. When your DON!! count is equal to or less than your opponent's, it draws a card and adds an active DON!!. Nothing else in the list does all of that.
- Sakazuki is your removal (-6000) and your DON!! ramp. The ramp depends on a Navy Leader, which Donquixote Rosinante is.
- Mamaragan is a 0-cost card that draws in both its Main and Counter modes. Your card flow runs on it.
Buy these first. A budget build without them is a different deck.
Budget Swaps and What You Give Up
The key cost of trimming Laws is the name. Trafalgar Law is what your Leader's cost reduction and K.O. replacement look for. It is also what I Love You!! returns from trash and what the cost-8 Law plays from hand. Every Law printing you cut removes a target from all four effects.
Replacements come from cards already in the list, within the 4-copy limit:
- Divine Departure can go up by three copies.
- Slow-Slow Beam Sword can go up by three copies.
- Koby can go up by two copies.
| Short on | Fill with | What you give up |
|---|---|---|
| P-088 Trafalgar Law | Divine Departure or Slow-Slow Beam Sword | A Law-named body. Its Trigger needs a Supernovas Leader and does nothing here, so you mainly lose a 5000 Character with a +2000 Counter. This is the cheapest promo cut. |
| P-093 Trafalgar Law | Koby | A 6000 Blocker on curve that ramps a DON!! when you're behind. This is the most painful swap, because Koby only finds a card and doesn't defend the board. |
| Cost-8 Trafalgar Law (single copy) | Slow-Slow Beam Sword | Rush, a Life top-off, and the chain into a Law costing 7 or less from hand, including Rosinante & Law. Since it's a single copy, the impact is low. |
Each filler has a different trade-off:
- Divine Departure gives the biggest Counter (+3000), but it costs a card from hand. Running several copies drains the resources your Law recursion needs.
- Slow-Slow Beam Sword gives +2000, rests an opposing Character and has a DON!! Trigger. The DON!! -1 cost also helps you stay at or below your opponent's DON!! count for the Rosinante & Law and P-093 conditions.
- Extra Koby gives you more looks at Sakazuki, Borsalino and Rosinante & Law, but it brings no Blocker and a smaller Counter.
Keep any of these swaps to two or three slots total. Past that, your Leader's cost reduction will often have no Law in hand to discount, and the deck stalls.
Upgrade Path
- Identity core: Donquixote Rosinante, 4 Rosinante & Law, 4 Sakazuki and 4 Mamaragan.
- Consistency and defense:
- Search: 4 Marineford, Koby and the Sugar slots.
- Counters: I Love You!! and You Need Me, Don't You?!!♡ at the listed counts.
- Blockers: 4 Borsalino.
- ST10-010 Trafalgar Law: a full set gives you cheap Law-name density and Blocker bodies, so the Leader's engine works from day one.
- P-093 Trafalgar Law: the biggest single jump from budget to full power. A 6000 Blocker with ramp is the hardest effect to fake.
- Cost-8 Trafalgar Law and P-088 Trafalgar Law: finish here. These are the most replaceable slots, and the counter Events cover their job reasonably well in the meantime.
When you reach step 4, cut the extra Koby copies first. When you finish step 5, cut the extra counter Events last, and return to the listed single copies of Divine Departure and Slow-Slow Beam Sword.
Common Mistakes
Most losses with this deck come from sequencing and threshold errors. The engine is full of conditions: DON!! parity checks, Life thresholds, and once-per-turn effects. Each mistake below is one that quietly costs you a card, a Life, or a turn.
1. Spending the Leader discount on the wrong Law
The Donquixote Rosinante activation reduces the cost of the next Trafalgar Law with cost 4 or more that you play from hand that turn. You don't get to choose which one. Rosinante & Law counts as Trafalgar Law. If you activate and then play a cost-4 Trafalgar Law first, the reduction goes on that card, and Rosinante & Law still costs the full 6.
Fix: When you plan to play two Laws in one turn, play the one you want discounted first. That is usually Rosinante & Law (6 down to 4) or the cost-8 Trafalgar Law (8 down to 6). Only pay the DON!! 1 if you will actually play a qualifying Law that turn.
2. Breaking your own DON!! parity
Two On Plays only work if the DON!! on your field is equal to or less than your opponent's:
- Rosinante & Law draws 1 and adds an active DON!!.
- The 6000-power Blocker Trafalgar Law adds a rested DON!!.
The activate on Sakazuki adds 2 active DON!!. If you use it before playing those Characters, you can push yourself over your opponent's count and turn both On Plays off.
Fix: Play your parity Characters first and ramp afterward. The reverse also helps. DON!! -1 costs return DON!! to your deck: the Sakazuki On Play, the hand-trash Trafalgar Law On Play, and Slow-Slow Beam Sword all do this. If you are one DON!! over, paying one of those earlier in the turn can bring you back into range.
3. Using the Life swap on the first K.O.
The Leader's K.O. replacement is optional and once per turn. Many players accept it on the first Law the opponent removes. Often that Law is a cost-4 body that has already done its job. Then Rosinante & Law dies to the next removal effect with no protection.
Fix: Before accepting, ask whether a more valuable Law is likely to be targeted later this turn. If so, let the small Law go and save the swap.
Also count where your Life lands. The swap costs you a Life card. Dropping to 2 or less turns on Borsalino and the recursion on I Love You!!. Sometimes that is exactly what you want. Sometimes it puts you in lethal range.
4. Playing Borsalino and I Love You!! above their threshold
Borsalino only adds a Life when you have 2 or less Life. At 3 or more, it is just a 6000 Blocker. I Love You!! only returns a Law from trash at 2 or less Life.
Fix: Hold Borsalino until it gains you a Life, unless you need a Blocker body right now. Early in the game, defend with other Counters if they cover the gap. Save I Love You!! for when it gives you both the +2000 and a Law back.
5. Ramping past Mamaragan's draw
The Counter half of Mamaragan only draws if you have 6 or less DON!! on your field. Every Sakazuki activation adds 2 DON!! and moves you closer to the cutoff. Once you pass 6, your four copies become plain +1000 Counters.
Fix: If your hand is thin and you are relying on Mamaragan to refill during the opponent's turn, consider skipping the Sakazuki activation. You can also use a DON!! -1 effect to drop back to 6 before passing.
6. Using the wrong searcher
Each searcher only finds certain types, and the regular Laws are not among the Sugar hits:
- Sugar finds only Donquixote Pirates. That includes Rosinante & Law, I Love You!! and more Sugar. Every regular Trafalgar Law is Heart Pirates, so Sugar cannot find them.
- Koby and Marineford find Navy: Borsalino, Sakazuki, Rosinante & Law and I Love You!!. Marineford can also find Koby.
Fix: Decide what you need before you choose which searcher to use. Sugar also rests itself and one of your DON!!, so activate it with a DON!! you weren't going to spend anyway.
The same discipline applies to the hand-trash Trafalgar Law. Its trash effect only resolves if your opponent has 7 or more cards in hand. Don't pay the DON!! -1 into a smaller hand unless you want the lower DON!! count for parity.
7. Cashing in the cost-8 Law before it attacks
The cost-8 Trafalgar Law has Rush, and its activate does not require it to be active. Some players trash it as soon as it lands. That throws away a free attack.
Fix: Attack with it first, then activate it after combat. The activate trashes a card from your hand, adds the top card of your deck to your Life, and plays a Law with cost 7 or less from your hand. Rosinante & Law fits that cost, so its On Play triggers as well.
Be careful with the hand cost. If you activate with no Law in hand, you still get the Life. But you lose the body and a card that could have been a Counter. Activate when you have a Law to follow up with.
Tournament Prep & Final Notes
What to Practice Before the Event
Drill DON!! counting above everything else. Rosinante & Law and the 6000-power Blocker Trafalgar Law both check whether your DON!! on field is equal to or less than your opponent's. Several of your other cards move that number in either direction. Run solo goldfish turns where you write down both players' DON!! totals before every play and confirm each conditional On Play would actually resolve. If you can't do this math in your head, you will lose free cards and free DON!! all day.
Next, practice Life as a resource. Your Leader turns a Law K.O. into a Life card in hand. That drops your Life total, which is what switches on Borsalino and I Love You!! at 2 or fewer. Play games against a friend on an aggressive deck and decide out loud each time whether to take the replacement. Hitting 2 Life on your own terms is a plan. Hitting it while your opponent still has the board to finish you is a misplay.
Finally, rehearse against the decks you're most likely to face. In the online data, Rocks.D.Xebec (OP17-039) took 8 of 32 Top 8 slots from 46 of 256 entries, and Luffy & Ace (ST30-001) took 6 slots from 31 entries (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). Those two deserve most of your testing reps. The Luffy & Ace Standard guide covers that side of the table.
Rules Interactions to Know Cold
- Rosinante & Law is a Trafalgar Law. Its name counts as both. Your Leader's K.O. replacement protects it, the Leader's cost reduction applies to it, I Love You!! can return it from trash, and the cost-8 Trafalgar Law can put it into play.
- The Leader's reduction is "next time, this turn, from hand." Activate it, then play the Law immediately. The reduction only hits a Law of cost 4 or more, so it never discounts Sakazuki or Borsalino.
- The cost-8 Trafalgar Law trashes itself; it is not K.O.'d. Your Leader's replacement does not apply. The play-from-hand clause lets you put Rosinante & Law onto the field for free, and its On Play still resolves. It also has Rush, so check whether attacking first is worth more than cashing it in that turn.
- DON!! -1 costs lower your field count. Sakazuki's On Play, Slow-Slow Beam Sword and the cost-4 Trafalgar Law with the hand-trash effect all return DON!! to your DON!! deck. That can move you into range for a comparison-based On Play.
- Sakazuki's ramp raises your field count. Its Activate: Main works because your Leader has the Navy type, and it adds 2 active DON!!. Play any Law that needs the DON!! comparison before you ramp, not after. Ramping also matters for Mamaragan's Counter draw, which only happens at 6 or fewer DON!! on your field.
- The yellow 5000-power Trafalgar Law never plays from its Trigger. Its Trigger needs a Supernovas Leader, and yours is Donquixote Pirates/Navy. Treat it as a +2000 Counter body.
- Know your search targets. Sugar finds Donquixote Pirates cards: Rosinante & Law, I Love You!! and other Sugar. Koby and Marineford find Navy cards: Borsalino, Sakazuki, Rosinante & Law, I Love You!! and Marineford. Koby can't find another Koby.
- Divine Departure's Counter costs a card from hand. Treat the +3000 as a two-card defense when you decide whether a hit is worth stopping.
Before registering, don't add I Re-Quasar Helllp!! to this list. It is a banned pair with Borsalino (source: Bandai Banned/Restricted Card List, effective 2026-10-12).
Clock Management
This deck isn't slow because it durdles. It's slow because it makes many small decisions. Sugar, Koby and Marineford all look at five cards and bottom the rest in any order, and every Law play carries a DON!! check. Use these habits to save time:
- Decide your search target before you activate. Know whether you need a body, a Counter or Sakazuki, so the reveal is a confirmation, not a fresh decision.
- Bottom the unwanted cards in whatever order you fanned them unless a long game is realistic. The ordering rarely matters.
- Announce DON!! totals out loud when you make a comparison play. It prevents disputes and keeps your own math honest.
- On your opponent's turn, pre-plan your Counter budget for their likely attacks so you aren't re-reading your hand on every swing.
Final Assessment
This list is a resilient Law-chain midrange deck with three strengths:
- A Leader that converts removal into cards.
- A wall of Blockers.
- Events that both defend and refill your hand.
It finished 2nd out of 120 players at ChinoizeCup #125, and Rosinante converted 2 Top 8 slots from 12 entries across the counted online events (source: Limitless TCG online platform, 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-19). That is enough to call it a real contender, not a fringe pick.
Its ceiling depends on the pilot. The DON!! comparisons, the Life-threshold payoffs and the replacement decisions all reward precision and punish autopilot. If you put in the reps on DON!! math and Life management, you're registering a deck that can grind with the format's top Leaders. If you skip that work, pick something more linear.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Donquixote Rosinante deck win games?
It is a defensive midrange deck that wins by making every attack into its board expensive and every removal inefficient. You build a wall of Law Blockers, out-card the opponent while they try to break it, and only commit attacks once their board is rested or shrunk and your next turn's wall is secure.
What does the Rosinante Leader actually do for the deck?
For 1 DON!!, your next Law costing 4 or more played from hand that turn costs 2 less. Once per turn, when a Law would be K.O.'d, you can add your top Life card to hand instead, so the Blocker stays on the field and you gain a card. Rosinante & Law counts as Trafalgar Law, so both effects apply to it.
Which cards are essential and cannot be cut from this list?
The guide names Donquixote Rosinante, Rosinante & Law, Sakazuki and Mamaragan as cards with no stand-in, and says to buy these first. It also stresses keeping the Law count high, since the Leader's protection only covers Characters named Trafalgar Law.
Why does the deck want to drop to 2 Life on purpose?
At 2 or fewer Life, Borsalino adds a card back to your Life on play and I Love You!! returns a Law from trash to hand. The Leader's K.O. replacement pulls Life into hand, so low Life becomes a resource state. Hitting 2 Life while the opponent still has the board to finish you is a misplay.
What is the DON!! parity rule and how do I play around it?
Rosinante & Law and the P-093 Trafalgar Law only ramp if your DON!! on field is equal to or less than your opponent's, and you usually sit one ahead on your turn. Use DON!! -1 costs from Sakazuki, the ST10-010 Law or Slow-Slow Beam Sword to get level, and resolve parity On Plays before activating Sakazuki's ramp.
What are the hardest matchups for Rosinante?
The guide marks removal that rests or trashes as unfavored, because the Leader only protects against K.O. Spread your threats instead of stacking DON!! on one Law, and use the cost-8 Trafalgar Law to rebuild. Wide aggro and big-hand value decks are listed as favored, and the named Leaders are all read as even.
What are good budget swaps for this Rosinante deck?
The guide suggests replacing the P-088 Law with Divine Departure or Slow-Slow Beam Sword, the P-093 Law with Koby, and the cost-8 Law with Slow-Slow Beam Sword. Keep swaps to two or three slots total, because cutting Laws removes targets for the Leader and the deck stalls.
What should I practice before taking Rosinante to an event?
Drill DON!! counting above all else, writing down both players' totals before every play to confirm conditional On Plays resolve. Next practice using Life as a resource by deciding out loud when to take the Leader's replacement. Then put most testing reps into Rocks.D.Xebec and Luffy & Ace.
